Mogadishu mortar attacks leaves several injured across residential neighbourhoods

Multiple mortar shells struck civilian areas in Mogadishu on Saturday morning, injuring several people and damaging property in busy neighborhoods, according to local authorities and witnesses.

The attack targeted several locations across the Boondheere and Warta Nabadda districts, including the National Theater and a crowded public square.

One of the shells exploded inside the theater compound, wounding an employee named Gurey.

Two others were hurt when another round hit a bustling intersection in Warta Nabadda. A fourth mortar landed near a home in Boondheere, though no further injuries were reported.

Somali Police Force Spokesperson Major Abdifatah Adan Hassan confirmed to The Eastleigh Voice that mortars landed in Mogadishu neighbourhoods but did not give details.

"Yes, several mortars have been fired into Mogadishu. We are investigating, and as soon as we have more details, we will share," Maj. Abdifatah told The Eastleigh Voice.

Security personnel quickly sealed off the affected zones and began investigating the source of the attack. So far, officials have not confirmed the total number of casualties or named any suspects.

The Al-Shabaab terror group has since claimed responsibility of the attack.
